After working in corporate America for a few years, I decided to follow my dream and become a makeup artist and start my own company.

Breakups to Makeup for the Makeup Enthusiast now at Sephora

I first learned of Breakups to Makeup at The Makeup Show Orlando in November.  The company is known for its unique quirky cosmetic-related slogans and caught my eye at the beauty pro trade show.

The fun company has partnered with Sephora to bring a new accessory assortment to everyone.  The three cosmetic bag or clutches feature two of Breakups to Makeup signature quotes “LOSING YOU HURT BUT LOSING MY MAKEUP WOULD BE A TRAGEDY and “I WOULD CRY BY MY MASCARA IS DESIGNER” the third is a Sephora exclusive, “LIFE IS SHORT, WEAR MORE MAKEUP’.

The clutches retail for $24 and a made of a durable canvas material, they are large enough to fit a phone and take out or to house all of your cosmetics.

Founder Angelique Velez began the company in June 2013, with a series of catchy phrases on a variety of products that celebrate the art.  “The goal of Breakups to Makeup has always been to encourage the artistic expression and empowerment that many makeup enthusiasts feel makeup has brought into their lives.  We are beyond thrilled to become a part of the beauty wonderland that they have created.”

Get the Look: Carey Mulligan’s 2015 Met Gala

The stars shined on Monday night as they attended the “China:Through The Looking Glass” Costume Institute Benefit Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 4, 2015.  We are so lucky that our friends at Kiehl’s and Makeup Artist Georgie Eisdell have shared how to get Carey Mulligan’s beauty look.  As she definitely was a knockout!

“Carey’s look for the Met Ball was all about enhancing her natural beauty. I wanted her skin to glow but then I wanted a little drama on her lips.”

“I first prepared Carey’s skin with Kiehl’s Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum Concentrate, and then moisturized with Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream Intense Hydration and Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment With Avocado for her eyes. Then I finished with Kiehl’s Micro-Blur Skin Perfector, I love this product so much. It’s the perfect base for makeup.”

“I then evened out her skin with Kiehl’s Skin Tone Correcting & Beautifying BB Cream in Fair/ Light.”

“Then, I used Tom Ford’s Illuminating Highlight Pen to brighten underneath the eye, and then used Tom Ford’s Cheek Color in Frantic Pink on the apples of the cheek for a natural flush to the cheek and then a touch of Hourglass’s Ambient Lighting Palette over the top for extra illumination.”

“I powdered really lightly, just on the high points of her face, with La Mer’s The Powder.”

“I enhanced Carey’s already perfect brows with Tom Ford’s Brow Sculptor in Taupe.”

“On Carey’s eyes, I left the lids bare of eye shadow. I just put a wash of translucent powder to even out the area, and then used Tom Ford Eye Color Quad in Cocoa Mirage in the crease of her eye, ever so lightly, to create a natural contour to the eye.”

“I finished the eye with YSL Volume Effet Faux Cils Mascara in Black and then a few Ardell single lashes to create a fullness to her natural lashes, keeping them looking defined and spidery.”

“I finished off her look with Tom Ford’s Matte Lip in Velvet Cherry, my favorite lip color at the moment.”

Last night stars shined as they attended the “China:Through The Looking Glass” Costume Institute Benefit Gala at hte Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 4, 2015.  We are so lucky that our friends at Kiehl’s and Makeup Artist Mary Phillips have shared how to get Chrissy Teigen’s beauty look.  As she definitely was a knockout!

INSPIRATION

“The colors I used were very modern but the feel is like a present day, softened, Studio 54, Bianca Jagger look. You’ll see the hues that would be found in an orchid (which I posted on my Instagram) Plums, purples, violets, with some gold and bronzed infused as well. One of the biggest keys to brushing out colors, (and not just on the eyes, but the face and body as well) begins with the right skin care, and without that, everything else would be almost impossible. The products that we put on for prep allowed her do have a locked in, dewy complexion that seemed to just get even more hydrated the longer the ingredients were on. The texture was left silky, but not slippery, which will help make her makeup stay on throughout the night. She is truly radiant, I’m so happy with this look, and the products I got to use to create it!”

SKINCARE

Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream

Kiehl’s Micro-Blur Skin Perfector

Kiehl’s Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum Concentrate

Mary started by moisturizing Chrissy’s lips with Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1. This allowed lip color to adhere, and shine its truest color. “One of the smoothest and silkiest lip balms on the market, you can feel it sink in automatically upon application.”

She massaged Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream on for about 5 minutes to get the blood flowing to the surface of the face, help alleviate any puffiness and even out skin tone. “I also feel like it makes the ingredients react quicker, which gives you the skin you’re desiring before even putting on any makeup!”

To enhance and further perfect the skin, Mary layered Kiehl’s Micro-Blur Skin Perfector. It acted as a primer and sealed in all of the moisture. “It acts as a primer and does a great job at sealing in all of the moisture and photoshopping out any final areas that would be later perfected with makeup, but, it’s Chrissy, and she needs almost nothing. So on someone this pretty, it’s just a bonus!”

She finished the skincare application by adding Kiehl’s Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum Concentrate in areas where she wanted an extra glow – the bridge of the nose, temples, tops of the cheeks, and in the cupid’s bow above the lip. It plumped and added shine to the skin – perfect for picking up extra light in front of cameras.  It plumps and adds a great shine to the skin that will look great in front of the cameras and pick up extra light.”

FACE:

Giorgio Armani Master Corrector Concealer in #2 (Orange)

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in #8

Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer in #2 and #3

Giorgio Armani Sun Fabric Sheer Bronzer in #200

Giorgio Armani Cheek Fabric Blush in #502 (Skin) and #503 (Daybreak)

TECHNIQUE:

Mary started Chrissy’s makeup by color correcting key areas with Master Corrector. She added a sheer layer of Luminous Silk – just enough to let a natural glow shine through. Her goal was the let Chrissy’s skin breath and be comfortable while adding a flawless glow. She added Fluid Sheer in #2 – a lighter, shimmery bronze – and #3 – a true bronze that gives an invisible depth to the skin that looks very natural. Mary used the Sun Fabric Sheer Bronzer as a final dust over to take care of any extra shine. She used 2 different cheek colors because a natural flush is not all one shade. #502 and #503 blended seamlessly together to make a soft salmon color which is universally flattering.

EYES:

Giorgio Armani Brow Defining Pencil in #3

Giorgio Armani Eye Tint in #9 (Cold Copper), #10 (Senso), #11 (Rose Ashes) and #12 (Gold Ashes)

Giorgio Armani Black Ecstasy Mascara in #1 (black)

Lancôme Le Curler Eyelash Curler

TECHNIQUE:

For Chrissy’s brows, Mary first brushed them, and then applied the pencil lightly. She prefers to use a lighter shade so she can control the color. To achieve a stronger and darker bridge, she added more pressure as she applied.

To achieve the desired watercolor effect, she used Eye Tints – making Chrissy’s eyes pop without being overbearing or heavy. She curled her lashes (first heating the eyelash curler with a blow dryer to double the volume) and added flare, volume and bold color with Black Ecstasy mascara,

LIPS:

Giorgio Armani Rouge d’Armani Lipstick in #513

TECHNIQUE:

Mary used a fuchsia color, reapplying and blotting to get the layer of color she wanted without the thickness and heaviness. The color played off Chrissy’s eyes, cheeks and the flower in her hair. She applied with a lip brush for extra precision.

Kiehl’s New Technology Can Help Your Skin ASAP

kiehlsWinter is finally over and in many cases it has been a rough one for you and your skin!

Our friends at Kiehl’s have a new skin care technology, that can help you determine your skin’s level of hydration.  Which can save you a ton of time and guessing .

Kiehl’s introduces our newest skin care technology, the Kiehl’s Dehydration Analyzer Tool (DAT), in Kiehl’s retail stores and select Kiehl’s department-store counters, to help customers determine their skin’s hydration.  Kiehl’s DAT is used by Kiehl’s Customer Representatives (KCRs) to help diagnose the health and hydration of the skin during a signature Kiehl’s Healthy Skin Check, a complimentary service offered.

The pen-like device employs bio-electric impedance technology to send an undetectable current through the surface layers of the skin, bouncing back to the device, measuring the water level in the skin by detecting the resistance to that current. The DAT is pressed gently to the customer’s cheekbone issuing a current–again, painless and completely undetectable by the customer–into the skin, which then bounces back to the device for the measurement.  Since water is an excellent conductor of electricity, the more hydrated the skin, the less resistance the current will have, so the faster the current comes back to the device, the more hydrated the skin.  A reading of 0-30% means skin is very dehydrated; 31%-50% means skin is somewhat dehydrated; and a reading of 51% and up means your skin is hydrated.

The DAT reading is quick and efficient—hydration levels can be read without any skincare preparation and over makeup.  Because hydration levels change over time, especially from season to season, we recommend that a Kiehl’s Healthy Skin Check every 3-4 months, to make sure you’re using the most appropriate products to maintain the health and hydration of the skin.

Every skin check begins with our KCRs using Skin Barrier Testing Tabs pressed onto the skin to measure the sebum level of the skin to determine skin type—normal, oily or dry. That is then followed by using the DAT to measure skin’s water level to determine the level of hydration. It’s important to remember that there’s a difference between dry skin and skin that is dehydrated. Dry skin lacks oil; while dehydrated skin lacks water. Any skin type, normal, oily or dry can suffer from dehydration.

Based on results from testing with the Skin Barrier Testing Tabs and the DAT, as well as an in-depth conversation with the customer about his or her skincare concerns and personal preferences, the KCR then recommends a personalized Kiehl’s Healthy Skin Routine to treat, moisturize and protect each customer’s skin.

If you’re interested in trying this out check at your closest Kiehl’s store.

Facial Smoothies Giveaway

I first heard about Facial Smoothies when I was at The Makeup Show Orlando, a pro-only beauty event.  Facial Smoothies were created by a gal like many of us who was trying to figure out an alternative to Botox.  And after testing and creating the Smoothies were created.

Facial Smoothies are adhesives that are shaped for specific areas of the face that help “iron-out” your skin.  Apply them and leave on for 20 minutes or overnight.  For deeper wrinkles it is suggested to wear them overnight as the longer you wear it the better the results.  They are hypoallergenic strips and the reason they help is because it smooths the skin and the retraining action of the strips holding your skin in a smooth position.

They compliment your moisturizers and serums, this product does not replace those products.

The box of Smoothies has 120 strips in it!  Are you ready to win it?

Last nigh at the 87th Academy Awards, Rashida Jones looked stunning at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party.  Learn how to get the Look with TEMPTU and celebrity makeup artist Jamie Greenberg,

Jamie said: “It’s all about the beautiful, dewy skin with a pop of color on the cheeks and lip.” We couldn’t be more in love with it, as it was the perfect compliment to her gorgeous Andrew Gn gown. Jamie shared her step-by-step beauty regime and inspiration for the red carpet night.

First I prepped Rashida’s skin with Embryolisse Lait Crème Concentre and TEMPTU BASE Smooth & Matte Primer, the TEMPTU Concealer Wheel and under her eyes with Embryolisse Radiant Eye.

Next I used TEMPTU AIRpod Foundation in Honey to create a flawless, dewy look. I highlighted her skin with a mix of the TEMPTU AIRpod Highlighter in Champagne and a little bit of Gold. I applied the TEMPTU AIRpod Blush in Peony Pink on the cheeks.

On the eyes, I used Colour Pop eye shadow in Mittens as a base on the eyes, with Jouer in Bordeaux over it. I applied MAC eye shadow in Carbon on the corners.

On Rashida’s brows, I used Ardell Brow in Dark Brown, and Ardell Double Flare Eyelashes in short and medium on the ends.

I finished off the look with TEMPTU Color True Lipstick in  Rose Velveteen on Rashida’s lips. A final touch of Pink Hype was added at the end for a little extra pop!

Jessica Chastain‘s skin and makeup looked amazing at the 87th Academy Awards.  I am so lucky to be able to share with you the products and how to get the look that makeup artist Kristofer Buckle created for the evening.

“Before we began, I applied a layer of Kiehl’s Creme De Corps to make sure Jessica’s arms, legs, and décolletage were as flawless as her face.  Applying the lotion first gave it plenty of time to absorb.”

“All makeup application needs a great base, so I prepped Jessica’s skin with Kiehl’s Hydro Plumping Re-texturizing Serum.  It works wonders as a primer and is extremely moisturizing.  I then added a thin layer of Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream, and applied Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment With Avocado around her eyes.  This was followed by Kiehl’s BB Cream in Light – Jessica is very fair, so it’s crucial to have both the right amount of coverage and SPF 50 all in one product.”

“I then used my Kristofer Buckle Always Flawless Day to Night Palette and YSL Couture Variation Palette to create a soft brown winged eye.  By using shadow, I was able to create a softer look than liquid liner. YSL Volume Waterproof Mascara was applied to add drama to her eyes.  To finish the look, I used Kristofer Buckle Absolute Nude Lip Crayon in Nude Subdued over Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1 for a clean, sophisticated lip.”
