How to Apply False Eyelashes

Lashes are an amazing way to frame and make your eyes pop in person or in photos.  However, many of us are not blessed with long and lush lashes.   While a great mascara can help in your goal, sometimes nothing works better than false eyelashes.  Makeup artists use them for photo shoots, weddings, and event makeup, and they seem easy to apply when makeup artists use them. I promise that with a few great tricks and a practice run, you can do it just like us.

Picking Your Lashes: Decide what your overall look is, whether you want drama or just want to add to your lashes but not make them too big.  Ardell Lashes are a good choice and give you options such as individual or strips.  If you get a strip, an alternative use is to cut it in half and add lashes on the end for a winged look made easy. For a more natural look try Babies or #109.  For a more dramatic look, I love MAC Cosmetics #8, or their half lash #20.

Measuring – Testing:  Once you have picked your lash, take the lash out of the package and hold it up to your eye.  Based on your eye size you may need to trim it to fit your lid.  It is much easier to do this before you glue them on.

Prep:  To protect your own lashes apply a thin layer of mascara.  Squeeze a small amount of lash glue in a fine line.  Gently run the seam of the lashes in the glue. You do not need it to be covered in glue.  I recommend Duo Eyelash Adhesive in Black.  The glue will dry clear but while its drying it will blend in with your lashes and eyeliner.

Apply:  Wait twenty seconds so that the glue gets a little tacky before you apply.  Position the false eyelashes as close to your lash line as possible.  It is easiest with a strip to start at the corner of your eye and move toward the center.  If you need to re-position, no problem.  You do not need to press on them, as the glue will do the job.  Wait a minute for glue to dry.

Once they are on:  Once you have got them both on, use an eyeliner to go over the seams.  This will give you a lined look, as well as conceal the seams of the strip.   Lastly, apply mascara to the lashes to blend them all together.

Removal:  An eye makeup remover will take them right off.  Just lightly apply some remover with your finger.  Focus on the outer corner to start and they will easily come off.

Dianna Agron looked gorgeous when she hit the red carpet and her makeup looked amazing thanks to her artist Georgie Eisdell.

Thanks to an amazing team I was able to get the scoop, so that you can create this eye catching look.

“We went for a sexy, smoky vibe which is easy with Dianna, she has the eyes for it and her skin is gorgeous.”  said Georgie Eisdell.

To start the look, Georgie prepped Dianna’s skin with Kiehl’s Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum Concentrate , which kept her skin to stay extra hydrated over the long night.  Next they used Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream Intense Hydration.  With the focus of the makeup on her eyes, the next step was prepping the eye area with Kiehl’s Super Multi-Correcting Eye Opening Serum. Just before I started on her base, I used Kiehls Micro-Blur Skin Perfector which puts a soft-focus filter on the skin.

“I evened out her skin with Kiehl’s Skin Tone Correcting & Beautifying BB Cream in Light, and then powdered lightly with La Mer’s The Powder to take the edge of the shine.”

“Dianna’s eyes were the focus. We haven’t used a lot of color lately so I wanted to give her eyes a little something special.  I used Chanel’s Illusion D’ombre in Diapason and Fantasme on the lid, blending it up into the crease. I brought it under the eye to create a smoky effect. On the inner rim for depth I used Tarte’s Deep Amethyst Pencil followed by two layers of YSL Volume Effet Faux Cils Mascara in Black, making sure the roots were coated really well to give extra depth to the lash line.”

Nars Blush in Madly was used on her cheeks to add color and create a contour.

“I finished off her look with Kiehls Lip Balm #1 first, then Jouer’s Lip Shine in Maui.”

“Just before she walked out I put Kiehls Creme de Corps body moisturizer on her arms chest and legs for that perfect glow.”

Taylor Swift is one young lady that really does rock great beauty looks on red carpets.  What I loved about her look tonight was that she went a different route than her normal gorgeous red lip.  Her light pink lip is perfect so that her silver smokey eye.  Also loving her hair pulled back in a chic ponytail.

Whether you were a fan of the dress or not Katy Perry‘s makeup and hair looked amazing.  The bubblegum pink lipstick was a great color that gave a fun statement.  Perry’s hairstyle was a nod to Elizabeth Taylor.  Her hair was twisted into a large bun and a shine mist was applied to get that polish.

Tamar Braxton glowed on the red carpet.  Her makeup was subtle and really showcased her beauty.  It was a look that was perfection, from the perfectly lined eyes for a pop, fresh skin and a light pink / nude lip.

Anna Kendrick’s sideswept hair was inspired by icon: Veronica Lake.  It was a fabulous style to showcase her beauty and the dress.  To create this look use thermal rollers and brush out.  And don’t forget to add the frizz control to keep your mane looking smooth.

How To Achieve A Hot Summer Makeup Look

With this summer’s record-breaking heat and humidity at an all-time high, what is a girl to do to keep her makeup from melting away? Here are some tips to achieve a hot summer look that is gorgeous, fashionable and sure to be a hit at the summer parties.

1. Start with a primer both for your eyes and your face.  There are some great products out there, one of my favorites is the Smashbox Anti-Shine Primer. It mattes your skin and then helps your foundation stick.

2. Next I apply eye makeup, before foundation.  To get a great smokey eye try using Lorac’s 3-in-1 Waterproof Eyeliner Pencils. The color is fantastic and they go on smooth and don’t budge so your smokey eye stays smokey.  And it has a smudger on the end, to give you a little smoke in the corner.  For shadow try Make Up Forever’s Aqua Cream. It goes on creamy, dries into a powder that is waterproof and does not crease.

3. When it comes to foundation for a hot summer look, less is more.  Think about using a tinted moisturizer instead of foundation. However, you will need to find one that still has strong coverage for even skin tone and longevity.  My personal pick is Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Tinted Moisturizers.  They are thin enough to feel light, but thick enough to look like foundation in pictures.

4. Instead of blush, I go with a bronzer to get the sun kissed look that reminds me of summer.  Add it to all the places the sun naturally hits your face: forehead, cheeks, bridge of nose and chin.  use a light touch and if needed you can add more than one layer.

5. Lips is a matter of taste, however, with a great smokey eye, I go light on the lips so as not to look overly done.  One option is to use a waterproof lip pencil, so that you are not constantly reapplying at the party.  A great option is Make Up Forever Aqua Lip Pencil, which you can color the entire lip with and add a touch of color without the hastle.

6. Finish the look off with MAC Fix +, it is a great spray and will set your makeup.

Stay cool and beautiful!
